What is an “affiliate commission”?
An affiliate commission means that if you click on one of the links on my website and buy the item(s) I recommend, I will receive a small commission for referring you. These commissions help me pay for the many people I hire, server costs, design costs, content production, and every now and then it buys me a cup of coffee so I can work more serving my audience.
Do these affiliate commissions make you biased?
If the readers decide to buy the products that my team and I recommend as a result of our research, analysis, interviews, and testing, our work is typically supported (but this is not always the case) through an affiliate commission from the service provider when they make a purchase; however, this is not always the case. If customers decide they are not happy with their purchases or the advise is not helpful, I will not get compensated for my time and effort. There is no motivation for either myself or my staff to choose low-quality products or to give in to pressure from service providers; in fact, the situation is just the reverse. I consider it to be a reasonably just approach that enables both my staff and I to maintain our dedication to putting the needs of our audience first.
The confidence that I have earned from you, my audience, stands out as the quality that I value the most. If I were to recommend something out of favoritism or laziness, and if that something turned out to be a poor recommendation, readers like you would not support my work.
